With an enthusiasm for yesteryear stories, subculture fashions and surrealism, Pen Walsh assembles her story telling into decorative, figurative works. Artist’s dark whimsical style and imagined subjects communicate a sense of wonder, escapism and an invitation into another world.
Influenced by artist parents and with a solid foundation of training in the arts, has lead to professional positions as lecturer, tutor and selected as artist for public art commissions.
Artist Pen's method of working in oils, acrylics and vintage materials fused with her sensitive brush strokes, bold colour and contrast find a growing niche of it’s own in the fast rising “Whimsical Dark Escapism” movement. Elements from inspirational vintage children's picture books, fables and truths combine to call attention to her finding about our past, present and future need to escape the mind from societies normalities.
Evolving progressions will lead to larger works focussing on certain storyline themes with expressive brushwork and specific attention to detail. Currently residing in Perth WA, Australia, paintings and private commissions have been collected Nationally and Internationally.
